The average monthly temperature difference between Northern and Southern regions during the winter months is 40°F (4°C). For example, the average monthly temperature in Miami, Florida during the winter is 60°F (16°C) and can drop dramatically overnight. This means that in one of the Southern most cities in the United States, during the coldest months of the year, the average ambient air temperature is well below the recommended temperature when spraying foam. Cold weather affects everyone.
The importance of chemical temperature in spray foam is linked to maintaining chemical ratio, maintaining consistent tank pressure, and optimizing foam yield. If spray foam chemicals are not conditioned to room temperature, about 75 – 85°F (24-29°C), the foam performance could be compromised and could ultimately lead to a loss in yield and therefore a loss in dollars. To reach the optimal chemical temperature before spraying foam, store chemical indoors at a temperature between 75 – 85°F (24-29°C) for at least one day prior to spraying.
